Most people realize that they need to educate their children about current technology; however, when children use the computer, cell phone, or the internet carelessly there can be harsh reproductions. But as children will need to use the computer and internet for school work and connecting with friends and they will need to use cell phones to call home and stay in touch, it is important to teach children how to use technology responsively.

Before you allow your child to have their own computer it is important that they use a family computer that is located in the central part of the house. When they are using a family computer you will be able to watch how long they are on the computer and what they are doing while using it. It is important to talk with them about what is proper to post online and what is not. You should also consider limiting computer time unless your child is using the computer for school work.

Cellphones are the essential way to communicate now. Beyond simple talking, most people text rather than call each other. However, people tend to send pictures of text messages that they later wish that they could take back. It is important that you speak with your children about what is appropriate to say through a text message. Remind them that one the words are out there they cannot be taken back.

While technology is a very important part of everyday life, the repercussion of saying something online or over a text message can be sever. It is important that you teach your kids to use technology responsibly so that they are hurt and do not hurt others.
